If you are new to a project, you may want to read the high-level planning documents. As the project progresses, you may need to check the project milestones to see what tasks have been committed to each milestone. You may also want to associate work items with milestones, for example, you might want to set the target milestone for resolving a particular defect.
The Project Management page displays links to project milestone information and project management documents such as the business case and the project plan. This page also contains templates that provide instructions on document structure and content as well as predefined styles to simplify formatting.
If you are going to author one or more documents for use on the Project Management page, in all likelihood the project owner will want you to base the documentation on a template that is available from this page.
This section discusses:
You can check the lifecycle artifacts (requirements, defects, and so on) that are due for each milestone from the Project Management page.
If your project administrator has enabled the Project Dashboard tool and the Task Manager (a tool associated with Project Dashboard), you can also view the project schedule and tasks in the Activities area. The activity area is either directly below the page navigation toolbar or at the top of the page. It is the area with a light blue background.
The Schedules and Tasks links in the Activities area are links to the Project Dashboard tool. Once Project Dashboard is configured for this project these links become operational. These links display the Project Plan milestones for the project. These are tasks that have an effort value of 0 in an .mpp file. The view presented on these queries is limited to only the upcoming Lifecycle Task milestones for the next four weeks. If there are none, you receive an error message.
You can read project documentation from a Documentation table on the Project Management page. If you are responsible for authoring project management documents, you can download templates for these documents from this page and upload the draft or completed documents to this page. You or the project administrator can also add new documentation templates to the list.
If you have a content developer role in the project (or have both VersionControl - Commit and VersionControl - Add permissions granted by an administrator), you can also add information to this page as well as view this page. However, the project administrator may prefer to take requests for additions to this page and be the sole person who actually performs the updates.
The Documentation table on this page contains a View other project documents link. Clicking this link is equivalent to clicking the Documents and files link in the left navigation pane.
Important: If you experience any difficulty uploading documents on this page, ask your project administrator to be sure that two Subversion integrations settings are turned off for the project. The administrator should click the project link on the Projects page, clickEdit project > Tool configuration, then turn off the Message must name artifact and Committer must own artifact settings in the Subversion section of the page.
In addition to reviewing the project planning documents and milestones, the activity area on this page give you access to the following:
