Discussion options

These are some of the options that you can set when you create a new discussion.

Restrictions
You can specify the user permissions for a discussion.
Private
Allows only users with permission to use this discussion
Moderated
Requires moderator approval for all posts

Web UI View
You can set the restrictions on web UI view by using this option.
  • Restrict web view to subscribed users
  • Restrict web view to users with "Discussion View" permission
  • Restrict web subscription to users with "Discussion View" permission
Web Posting
    You can set the restrictions on web posting by using this option.
  • Nobody
  • Registered users with the "Message Post" permission only
  • Registered users only
  • Everybody
Email Subscription
    You can set the restrictions on email subscription by using this option.
  • Nobody
  • Registered users with the "Discussion View" permission only
  • Registered users only
  • Everybody
Email Posting
You can set the restrictions on email posting by using this option.
  • Nobody
  • Registered users with the "Message Post" permission only
  • Registered users only
  • Known addresses only
  • Everybody
Web post CAPTCHA
You can enforce CAPTCHA settings as:
  • No CAPTCHA
  • Anonymous web posts only
  • All web posts
Display email addresses
Choose whether to display the email addresses or not.
  • No
  • Yes
Remove deleted messages
Specify the days of permanency, after which the deleted messages are cleaned off. Use 0 for manual cleaning only.
Remove unmoderated messages
Specify the days of permanency, after which the unmoderated messages are cleaned off. Use 0 for manual cleaning only.
Content in Email
Choose whether subscribers will receive messages with the entire content of the text displayed in the email body or just a link to the message within the discussion.

Note: This option is available only if enabled by the administrator.

Prefix
Add a prefix to the subject lines of email messages sent from the discussion. This may help users quickly identify the discussion topic.

Reply Behavior
Choose how replies to posts are handled. There are three options:
Reply to list
The user's reply is sent to the email address of the discussion (for example, list@<projectname>.<domainname>). All subscribers receive the reply.
Reply to sender
The user's reply is sent to the email address of the sender or originator of the message.
Reply to
Set an arbitrary email address for users' replies to be sent to.
Message Size
The maximum size of messages allowed, including attachments.
Footer
Text to be displayed at the bottom of every message posted to the discussion. For example, consider adding instructions on how to subscribe or unsubscribe here.
Attachments
Block or allow attachments depending on MIME type. For example, you can choose to allow files with extensions .html, .pdf, .jpg etc.
