Project Tracker has a very dynamic artifact management strategy. Committing, tracking and modifying artifacts is a simple process. Project Tracker has the following artifact management features:
Artifact types provide a unique set of attributes and options used to describe artifacts in a meaningful manner. Attributes within an artifact type are defined by the project administrator and affect only artifacts within that artifact type. Each project has a unique set of artifact types. You may have a different set of permissions for each artifact type in your project. Artifacts remain within the artifact type in which they are entered until a user moves or copies them to another artifact type.
Before you enter artifacts for your project, you should familiarize yourself with the available set of artifact types. Where you enter an artifact will be determined by how your project is organized. Once you have selected the artifact type that best describes your artifact, click on the name of the artifact.
Attributes are the common descriptors for artifacts. Attributes are used to categorize artifacts. Each artifact type has a unique set of attributes like Summary, Description, Milestone, Priority, Status, Resolution and Severity. There is a default set of values for the attributes but your project administrator may have altered the set available for your artifact type.
Attributes can be organized in groups. If duplication checking is active, you enter a subset of attributes for the artifact. This subset is used to check for duplicates in the database. After the duplication checking process is complete, you can enter values for the remaining attributes.
An artifact type may have a set of required attributes. Values for the required attributes must be entered before committing the artifact. Required attributes are identified by an asterisks (*) beside the name of the attribute.
On many results pages you can change which attributes appear on your screen. For information on customizing your interface see customizing the interface. After selecting the Enter new tab, you can select from the available artifact types and enter values for the available attributes. Attributes appear with a drop down box or list of options to select from or a text entry form for you to enter text. You can select one item from a drop down box and multiple items from attributes with lists. All attributes with an asterisks (*) beside the title must have values before saving the artifact. customizing the screen.
Any text attribute within an attribute group can be used as an identifier of an artifact. However only one attribute can be marked as the identifier for an artifact. The attribute types allowed to be the identifiers of artifacts are short texts, long texts and email addresses.
To reset the artifact identifier:
Note:-If the Summary field or the text field marked as the identifier is deleted from the group then the system will automatically choose another text field as the identifier and mark that as a Required field.
If the text field selected as the identifier has the value "application not working" then this text will appear:
For example: [<projectname>][SC1][Modified] application not working
For example: Project Tracker: Defect ID SC1: application not working
After selecting the Enter new tab, you can select from the available artifact types and enter values for the available attributes. Attributes appear with a drop down box or list of options to select from or a text entry form for you to enter text. You can select one item from a drop down box and multiple items from attributes with lists. All attributes with an asterisks (*) beside the title must have values before saving the artifact.
If duplication tracking is active, entering an artifact becomes a three step process. The first step is to define a subset of attributes that will be used to check for duplicates in the database once you have clicked the Next button. The second step is to review all possible duplicates and determine what action to perform (see Duplicates for more information on duplicate management). The third step is to enter values for the remaining attributes.
While you are entering the artifact you can attach a relevant file using the same form. Attaching a file helps you and others to easily share relevant information or patches. For more information on adding attachments see Attachments.
Before submitting your artifact you can review the artifact and add additional information, including attachments. Once you are done editing your artifact click the Submit artifact button.
