Adding an authentication realm

Adding an authentication realm enables users to log into CollabNet using a safe protocol.

To add an authentication realm, do the following:

  1. Log in to CollabNet as a Host or a Domain Administrator.
  2. Click the Administration tab.
  3. Click Authentication Realms from the left navigation menu.
  4. Click Add New Authentication Realm. You will see a page that shows the Properties, Parameters and so on.
  5. Under Properties, enter the Name of the realm and the Description.
  6. Under Parameters, enter the primary server address and the port number. The Primary Server Address should be in the format schema.domainname. You can also enter the port number of your server, for example You can specify the port number of the authentication server you are going to user. 389 is the default port number.
  7. Check the box that says Use SSL to enable SSL encryption.
  8. Enter the user base domain name. This should be in the format dc=server name dc=server name, dc=domain name, for example, .com(commercial).
  9. Enter the authentication timeout value. This will determine the interval of time that will be used before a time out message is displayed.
  10. Under Connection Verification, enter the username and password of the external realm and click Verify Settings to check if that particular server exists. the given parameters are valid.
  11. If the server exists, you will see a message that says, "Successful connection with the specified LDAP server was successful," or you will receive an error message.
  12. If you get a Successful Connection message, click Add Authentication Realm. Your realm will be added. But this is optional, even though the connection fails the administrator is allowed to save the realm information.
  13. Click the Cancel button if you want to go back to the main page.

A default realm will be created when the Authentication Realm option is enabled. You will not be able to delete the default realm.

Note 1: You should not enter HTML tags in the Name field under Properties.

Note 2: After you have created an authentication realm, you can check the Availability box to make that realm available to the user in case, if the user is allowed to select the realm.
